What Exactly Is Health Coaching?

Health Coaching is a partnership that helps you bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be in your health/life journey. It’s not about setting one-off goals —it’s about sustainable lifestyle change, accountability, and support tailored specifically to you and your needs. We are not “fixing what is wrong”; we are improving what is.

Health coaching follows the principle that you are the expert when it comes to yourself and to your motivation.  

It is a partnership that will help you:

  • Reconnect with (or discover) your values

  • Understand your patterns and “shoulds”

  • Experiment safely with change

  • Focus on the things that you control and let the others go

  • Learn how to calm your busy brain

  • Break through imposter syndrome

  • Take the next step on your life path—with confidence

Wellness and Life Coaching builds on these concepts and goes further. Where appropriate, I will integrate my HR and leadership experience into our discussions. And I will offer “lifestyle medicine” when permitted, ensuring that your physical health supports your mental health. 

Underpinning my work is a Scope of Practice. This outlines what is required from me and includes confidentiality, privacy, information and record storage. It also clarifies that I can not diagnose medical conditions, or prescribe or de-prescribe medications.  

So what actually happens?

To commence our journey we would have a discovery session where I would ask you a number of questions designed to start us both thinking. You would also be able to question me and ensure that you were comfortable.

From there we would meet for an hour at least 3 more times. Some clients find that they have what they need from those sessions; others will continue. I find that there comes a time when we both feel that our journey is complete. Some clients will come back after this every couple of months for a “refresher”.

And does it work? 

Yes!  Health Coaching is not about telling you what to do. It’s about empowering you to hear your own wisdom—and act on it.  If you come in a motivated frame of mind, I believe that Health Coaching will bring positive and lasting change.
